Elena Petre

Elena Petre is the National Environmental Protection Agency’s (NEPA) representative, where she is the head of the Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) office. With her vast experience, spanning over 15 years of work in the field of implementing the European Law regarding genetically modified organisms and genetically modified microorganisms, she is currently representing Romania at the European Commission. More precisely, she is a representative in the Regulatory Committee’s meetings for Directive 2009/41/EC on the contained use of genetically modified microorganisms and for Directive 2001/18/EC on the deliberate release into the environment of genetically modified organisms.
Between 2018-2019, she was a member of the Working Group on Biosafety within the Council of the European Union. Furthermore, she represents Romania in the relationship with the European Medicines Agency in the context of evaluating the environmental risk assessment factors for medicines consisting or containing of GMOs, that are to be authorized for placing on the market.
